The City of Snellville has announced its intention to adopt the 2024 property millage rate during a meeting at the Snellville City Hall Council Chambers, scheduled for July 22, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. As part of the proceedings leading up to this decision, the city has released a comprehensive record of its tax digest, including the levied amounts, which offers insight into the taxation trends over the past five years. The details of these records have been made available in a recent announcement by the city.
Reflecting on the city's financial landscape, the documents illustrate an increasing valuation in Snellville's real and personal property, climbing from $917,001,350 in 2019 to a proposed $1,601,984,860 in 2024. This substantial rise is mirrored in the figures concerning Snellville's gross digest, which saw a spike from $924,406,865 in 2019 to a projected $1,606,755,120 for 2024, numbers that signify the city’s evolving economic skin. In contrast, motor vehicles show a gradual decrement, from $7,016,160 in 2019 down to $3,632,890 in the proposed values for 2024.
Despite these shifting numbers, the net millage rate has remained stable since its reduction to 4.000 mills in 2022, a lower rate compared to the 4.588 mills that held stead between 2019 and 2021. The net taxes levied, a result of the applied millage to the net digest, show increases each consecutive year, with a substantial 16.02% increase from 2023 over 2022, and a proposed 10.13% increase for 2024. The forthcoming millage rate adoption meeting will not only confirm these rates, but also serve as a platform for public commentary, as stated in the City of Snellville announcement.
In compliance with legislative stipulations, Snellville's Mayor and Council are scheduled to conduct public hearings regarding these taxation matters on July 8 and again on July 22, preceding the evening meeting where the 2024 millage rate will be formally set. These hearings will be held at the Snellville City Hall Council Chambers, and according to the City of Snellville, "All concerned citizens are invited to attend" the sessions, which promise to demonstrate civic engagement and the democratic process. Residents of Snellville are encouraged to seize this opportunity to have their voices heard and participate in shaping their city's fiscal policies.
