Summer is hitting the ground running at Aquatic Park with a splashy opener on June 7, right on the heels of the final school bell. As reported on May 31, the community pool located at 3700 Monterey Drive will be the host of a festive "First day of summer" event, starting at 3 p.m. and keeping the fun afloat until closing time.
Parents, dragging their kids along, can look forward to sinking their teeth into dollar hot dogs, savoring 50-cent small fountain sodas, and chilling out with 50-cent ice cream sandwiches. An announcement from the City of St. Louis Park confirms this family-friendly shindig is meant for all comers, no matter their ages.
While the fee to get in the gate is a reasonable four bucks a head, or alternatively one can brandish a season pass, don't get too excited about dusting off any of those BOGO coupons—you know, the ones burning a hole in your wallet. The city's official bulletin has made it crystal clear that they won't be honored at this event.
As they say, every hot dog has its day, and it seems June 7 is earmarked for the franks and the frolicking community at Aquatic Park. Let's hope the weather plays nice because nothing puts a damper on a fizzing soda and a floating ice cream sandwich like a summer storm popping up uninvited.
