St. Philip's College, located on the MLK Campus, was placed under a partial lockdown yesterday following an off-campus shooting which prompted an extensive police investigation nearby. The college announced the security measure on its website after the shooting incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the 5100 block of North Foster Road, where a man was critically wounded, according to KSAT. After the incident, a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting was abandoned on Dakota Street, close to the college, and multiple individuals were seen fleeing into a nearby house on South Walters Street.

The lockdown, which lasted several hours, ended around 9 p.m. as eight individuals were detained after leaving the residence and surrendering to the authorities, however, the number of those connected to the Northeast Side shooting remains uncertain because the police continued their search after some detainees indicated additional people were still inside the house nobody else had emerged, despite the police's calls for them to do so. During the incident, streets surrounding the community college were closed, and a joint force of heavily armed police from the Alamo Colleges Police Department and the San Antonio Police Department was deployed in the area, this according to a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio.

While the lockdown was active, St. Philip's College advised students and staff to steer clear of the Walters Street area through a statement on the district's website. Faculty and students were instructed to stay updated through their emails as the situation unfolded. In total, nine people were detained, and three individuals taken in for questioning by homicide detectives as the investigation continued on site well into the evening, as SAPD confirmed.
