Authorities have arrested a suspect following a high-speed vehicle chase that unfolded on US Highway 59. According to a Facebook post by the Splendora Police Department, while on patrol near the 2090 marker on US Highway 59 SB, officers spotted two vehicles—a Ford Mustang and a black BMW 740 Li—engaging in what appeared to be a street race. When law enforcement attempted to intervene, the Mustang slowed and exited the highway, whereas the BMW accelerated, reaching speeds over 120mph in an attempt to escape capture.
The incident prompted coordinated efforts by local law enforcement, including the assistance from the Department of Public Safety, as well as the Roman Forest Police Department. With collaboration, a containment maneuver was successfully executed at the 1485 overpass. The pursuit was brought to a halt without further risk to the public safety. Angel Villalobos has been identified as the suspect taken into custody after the reckless endeavor, now facing charges for highway racing and evading law enforcement.
