In the early hours of an otherwise tranquil Sunday in Brentwood, a flurry of police activity unfolded following a suspicious vehicle report. According to the City of Brentwood Police Department, at around 2:30 AM, officers sprinted into action on a dispatch call to the 7200 block of Brentwood Blvd. Here, a caller described a person, shrouded in dark clothing and a black ski mask, who seemed to be tampering with a community mailbox.
Arriving on the scene moments later, police witnessed the vehicle speeding away. While the officers momentarily lost sight of it, their search soon paid off when the same car, left forsaken and empty at the end of Havenwood Avenue, bore evidence of a crime—it was a stolen car out of Antioch, its innards spilled out with stolen mail and a cache of burglary tools.
Only hours into their investigation, officers received another call. This one witnessed the suspect stealing a package from a porch on Stratford Way. Police, one of them happened to be nearby, did short work of catching up to the suspect on foot, prompting apprehension among the individual in question.
The suspect was identified by authorities as Gustavo Montanorazo, a 35-year-old from Concord, and not a stranger to the criminal justice system. Montanorazo was found carrying more than just illicit mail. According to the police department, his haul included a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, several social security cards, assorted vehicle titles, uncashed checks, and various keys, none belonging to him, as well as numerous drugs.
Montanorazo's rap sheet now includes a variety of fresh accusations, such as being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, identity theft, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, possession of drugs, and petty theft, among other related charges. There was also an unidentified passenger arrested on an outstanding warrant entangled in the night's events.
