Two teenagers were apprehended by the Metropolitan Police Department in connection with a series of robbery attempts in Southeast Washington, D.C. The suspects, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, whose names have not been disclosed due to their juvenile status, allegedly carried out their ill-conceived attempts on Friday, giving the appearance they were armed and demanding property from unassuming passersby in broad daylight, as reported in a recent press release from the MPD.
The first incident took place around 1:30 p.m. on the 900 block of 2nd Street, Southeast, where the suspects implied possession of a gun to commandeer a victim's phone, and the subsequent attempts occurred shortly thereafter with the suspects moving locations, converging with victims on First Street, L Street, and finally near the intersection of K and Half Streets, Southeast, as if in a frenzied but clumsy dance their movements telegraphed a certain unspoken desperation, a narrative of whispered threats and hasty retreats. Each of these attempts left the perpetrators empty-handed, except for the first where they managed to take the victim’s phone.
In the concluding instance of their ill-fated escapade, police swiftly intervened near K and Half Streets to stop the teenagers before they could distance themselves from their last mark of the day; the official press release chronicles the final moments leading to the arrest without any obtained property from the intended victim at this location.
