Minneapolis residents can expect to see work crews along Hennepin Avenue this coming October as utility upgrades resume. After completing the replacement of natural gas lines between Lincoln Avenue and Franklin Avenue back in April, CenterPoint Energy has announced plans to continue their infrastructure project further down Hennepin from Emerson Avenue S. to 26th Street W.
According to CenterPoint Energy's latest bulletin, this phase will involve the installation of a new natural gas main and migrating inside meters to the outside. Service lines will also connect to a new main, and any areas disrupted by construction are set to be restored. Commuters should be prepared for at least one travel lane to remain open in each direction, but parking restrictions and potential sidewalk closures - one at a time to maintain access - are on the horizon.
