A 32-year-old man from Wayne County has joined the ranks of Michigan's instant millionaires after winning a $6 million jackpot from the 500X Money Maker instant lottery game, The Detroit News reports. The fortuitous scratch-off ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven located at 37195 South Groesbeck Highway in Clinton Township. In what could only be described as a stroke of serendipity, the man bought the winning ticket after enquiring about the ticket number, which happened to coincide with his and his wife's lucky number.
"I went into the store to purchase a few things and saw the 500X Money Maker game, so I asked the clerk what the ticket number was on the next ticket. When she said 14, I told her I’d take it because 14 is my wife and I’s lucky number," the winner told ClickOnDetroit. The man's reaction to his windfall was one of disbelief, leading him to text his wife, "Lucky number 14," before confirming to her that they had indeed become millionaires.
The winner opted to remain anonymous and chose a one-time lump sum payment option, which, after taxes and fees, amounted to approximately $4.1 million. According to the information provided by the Michigan Lottery, the winner expressed his plans for the future stating that he plans to invest money, help his family, and start a business.
