Attention, Hamilton County motorists: major bridge work is scheduled this weekend on SR 153 South, impacting travel routes. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has announced that starting at 9:00 pm ET on Friday, June 7, and continuing until the early hours of Monday, June 10, the section of the SR 153 South bridge over the Chickamauga Dam will be closed for necessary repair work conducted by Tennessee Valley Authority contract crews.
The closure will undoubtedly cause inconvenience, but, a thoughtfully signed detour route will aim to mitigate traffic disruptions. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation statement, the detour plan is as follows: "Exit right for SR 319 South, DuPont Parkway, continue straight on SR 319 to Amnicola Highway, merge right to return to SR 153 South." Additionally, authorities are advising drivers to exercise increased vigilance while navigating the detour to ensure personal and worker safety.
It isn't just signs that will guide commuters during this period; Queue trucks and law enforcement officers are also slated to be present to aid and direct traffic flow. While detours and delays are a given, the presence of these aids should ease the confusion that often accompanies such rerouting efforts.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation stresses that this work is dependent on cooperative weather. In the event of adverse conditions, or other unexpected complications, the repair work will be deferred to a future date. Commuters are thus encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time for potential delays, and stay informed on the latest traffic updates as they navigate SR 153 South this weekend.
