San Antonio drivers expect significant disruptions this weekend as roadwork continues on the city's far Northwest Side. According to KSAT, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced that eastbound Loop 1604 at I-10 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, June 21 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, weather permitting. This is part of the larger Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, which aims to facilitate better traffic flow in the area.
The closures will specifically affect multiple ramps and lanes, including the Loop 1604 eastbound main lanes from Vance Jackson Road to Lockhill Selma Road and the westbound main lanes' left lane at the I-10 Interchange. To navigate around the closures, drivers will need to follow detour signs and plan for additional travel time. Local law enforcement will also be present to help direct traffic during these times. The main lanes of I-10 and westbound Loop 1604, however, will remain open through the weekend.
Further closures the prior weekend, starting June 14, affected the I-10 eastbound main lanes at the Loop 1604 interchange and several other roadways and ramps. These are part of ongoing efforts to minimize the impact on weekday traffic and include breaks in construction for holidays, with no major closures scheduled during the week of the July 4 holiday.
For motorists looking to travel eastbound on Loop 1604 or connect to I-10, detours will direct them onto frontage roads where they can later re-enter the highways via entrance ramps past the construction zones. TxDOT has provided maps and detour information to assist with route planning. Accessibility to local businesses around the interchange will remain available throughout the roadwork period.
All the closures and detours are subject to change; thus, authorities advise drivers to stay alert for any updates. TxDOT encourages those traveling through these areas to allow extra time and to exercise patience during the construction.
