A fatal accident at a Schertz construction site on May 28 has claimed the life of a worker identified by the Schertz Police Department as Jose Angel Gonzalez-Fuentez, a 39-year-old man originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela. According to FOX San Antonio, Gonzalez-Fuentez was fatally injured while working on the site near the corner of Tejas Way and Doerr Lane. The report further noted that both the Venezuelan consulate and Gonzalez-Fuentes were notified of the incident, suggesting a possible error in communication.
Responding to the incident around 4:30 p.m., Schertz Police, Fire, and EMS found the victim had sustained an injury that would prove fatal. Described as a 40-year-old Hispanic male, which differs slightly from the earlier report. The Police Department is leading the probe into the circumstances of the accident, with the support of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as stated by News 4 San Antonio.
The company overseeing the construction, Yantis Construction Company, has been reportedly cooperating with the ongoing investigations. The details of the accident remain scarce.
