A 16-year-old has been charged in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Anthony Wayne Simmons Jr., with two other suspects, 19-year-old Javion Rangel and 17-year-old Carmelo Converse, arrested in connection with the crime on the Northeast Side. According to a report by FOX San Antonio, the unnamed minor appeared in juvenile court, while his alleged accomplices were charged with aggravated assault, their charges expected to escalate to murder.
The previous month's incident occurred at an apartment complex off North Foster Road and Lakeview Drive, where the victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The suspects reportedly opened fire on Simmons, who was sitting in his car, leading to injuries that he ultimately could not overcome. Despite the arrests, the tragedy is compounded by another violent episode in the same area. As News 4 San Antonio reports, a separate shooting took place recently, leaving a man in his early 20s hospitalized in serious condition after an incident at a nearby East Side apartment complex.
In the case of Simmons's murder, the 16-year-old suspect will have a follow-up hearing on August 8. Meanwhile, Rangel and Converse remain in Bexar County Jail, each under a $150,000 bond. As the neighborhood confronts this wave of violence, the outcomes of these cases are being closely watched, with the hope that justice will be served, and a measure of peace returned to the Northeast Side.
