A 17-year-old boy is fighting for his life following an overnight shooting in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood. According to 6abc, the teen was shot in the chest earlier today around 12:30 a.m. while walking along the 1800 block of East Lippencott Street. The victim reportedly heard the gunshot before realizing the bullet had struck him.
The teen managed to reach Temple University Hospital where he received urgent medical care before police had even arrived at the scene of the shooting, his condition was critical, and at the time of reporting, there had been no update on his prognosis. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small confirmed that a single gunshot had been detected in the area, as reported by NBC Philadelphia.
No arrests have been made as of yet, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Authorities are currently collecting surveillance footage from the neighborhood in hopes that it may provide leads to apprehend the shooter, as police continue to puzzle together the scant details they have.
"Police said they weren't aware how the teen got to the hospital or any other circumstances around the shooting," as per NBC Philadelphia's coverage. Inspector Small is hoping that the gathered surveillance video will aid in tracking down the responsible individual; nonetheless, with limited information available and no witnesses coming forward immediately after the incident, the search for the shooter has become a complex endeavor.
