The police swiftly responded to the scene to find a disarray that only accentuates the dangers of impaired driving. A witness reported seeing an individual from the car trying to dispose of what looked to be alcoholic beverages quickly. The driver, an 18-year-old San Rafael local, was subjected to field sobriety tests and subsequently found to be driving under the influence at the time of the incident.
Post-collision protocols were adhered to, as the young driver was medically evaluated at a local hospital before being booked into Marin County Jail on DUI charges. The San Rafael Police took to social media to illustrate the scene and serve as a caution to potential drunk drivers about the severity of such activities and their repercussions for themselves and the community at large.
As tow trucks worked to clear the aftermath and reopen the roadway, the San Rafael Police Department reiterated the importance of sober driving. They emphasized the availability of alternatives such as designating a sober driver, ride-sharing services, or public transportation.
