Early this morning, at approximately 1:40 a.m., a fatal collision occurred involving two vehicles on the Eastex Freeway in Houston, Texas. According to Houston police, the crash took place at 23200 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59), where the life of a 33-year-old man was claimed. City of Houston officials have yet to release the identity of the individual, pending confirmation from Montgomery County Forensic Services.
The incident, reported by HPD Vehicular Crimes Division J. James and Officer F. Serna, involved a head-on collision between a silver Hyundai Sonata and a silver Hyundai Genesis. Paramedics on the scene pronounced the Sonata's driver deceased, while the 61-year-old male driver of the Genesis was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Witnesses have suggested the possibility that the Sonata was driving the wrong way, moving southbound in northbound lanes, adding a tragic gravity to the mix-up of directions on that fateful strip of road.
