Chicago has seen its share of violence, but not every incident makes the headlines. In a recent event that unfolded in the city's South Side, a 64-year-old woman suffered grave injuries after being shot.
The alleged perpetrator, 58-year-old Anthony Williams of the 4000 block of E. 134th St., has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery with a discharge of a firearm, as reported by the Chicago Police Department. The incident occurred on July 1, shortly before 11 p.m., within a proximity that did not even span a city block from where Williams was apprehended.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the victim was shot in the same block where Williams resides. Law enforcement officials placed him into custody on the scene. Less than 20 minutes had lapsed between the shooting and the arrest, a swift response in a city all too familiar with gun violence. Williams is scheduled for a detention hearing today at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
