
A 65-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition after a house fire in Punaluu Valley, Honolulu. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a call at 9:43 a.m. and was quick to respond to the scene near Punaluu Valley Road. KITV reports that the fire crews saw flames from a distance and initially requested support for a second alarm, which was later canceled as unnecessary.
Upon arriving at approximately 9:50 a.m., HFD crews found a single-story home fully engaged with fire. The firefighters launched a defensive attack, securing a water supply, and had the fire under control by 10:26 a.m. It was later extinguished at 10:52 a.m. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the address and, reported that the victim was taken in serious condition for possible smoke inhalation. According to Hawaii News Now, the individual was transported to an area hospital.
The house's two residents had safely evacuated before the firefighters arrived on the scene. An investigation by HFD officials into the fire’s origin, and estimated damages are currently underway. The specific cause of the fire has not been disclosed at this time.
