In a sobering development from South Sacramento, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has reported a fatal shooting on 66th Avenue, ending in the arrest of a 66-year-old man. According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the 5700 block of 66th Avenue shortly before 10:00 AM yesterday, where they found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds; despite the quick response from Fire Department personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene, the tragedy of such violence punctuated by the daybreak of a new morning.
Witnesses were interviewed by Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators, with their efforts yielding results identified Leslie Weikert as the suspect in a post on the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Weikert, the tenant in the apartment complex where the murder took place, had reportedly been embroiled in a dispute with the victim, who worked at the complex, and upon shooting her fled the scene, leaving behind questions that now can only be answered by the haunting silence of a life lost.
The office's Major Crimes Bureau succeeded in locating Weikert later that evening; he was apprehended without further incident and is currently behind bars at the Sacramento County Main Jail, facing charges of PC 187 - Murder, his actions etched into the heavy ledger of the criminal justice system and the even heavier hearts of those touched by this act of gun violence.
