71-Year-Old Woman Drives SUV Into Farmington TJ Maxx, No Serious Injuries ReportedSource: Google Street View

A seemingly typical evening at a Farmington TJ Maxx turned chaotic when a 71-year-old woman lost control of her SUV and crashed into the store. The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Farmington Department of Public Safety, with the vehicle plowing through the store's front entrance and coming to rest several feet inside, CBS News Detroit reports.

While the driver's identity has not been released, Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin was quoted expressing relief that no serious injuries were sustained, "We are thankful that no one was seriously hurt in this incident," he stated. The SUV also struck other vehicles in the parking lot before breaching the storefront, according to WWJ Newsradio. Authorities have indicated drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Amidst the wreckage, shoppers experienced moments of panic as the vehicle disrupted the evening's tranquility. Sarah Davies, who was shopping with her daughter in the store at the time, recounted the terrifying scene to The Oakland Press. "At first I heard this strange noise, kind of like a muffled cracking — different that anything I ever heard before," Davies said. "Then I looked to where the sound was coming from — the front doors — and the glass started breaking."

The damage necessitated the temporary closure of the TJ Maxx, located at 33025 Grand River Ave, as building inspectors assess the structural integrity of the location before it reopens. The incident is still under complete, investigation, and findings will be reported to a prosecutor upon conclusion, as reported by the aforementioned sources.
