A 74-year-old driver died yesterday morning after crashing his vehicle in the Manoa area. The man, who might have been experiencing a medical condition, lost control while driving north on Oahu Avenue at approximately 10 a.m., as detailed by the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division in a report obtained by Star-Advertiser.
After the victim went through the East Manoa Road intersection, a collision occurred with a southbound vehicle, driven by a 71-year-old woman. Traveling south on Oahu Avenue, she was not injured in the accident, which involved the elderly man's vehicle crossing her path in an unforeseen manner. Speed, drugs, or alcohol were not considered factors in the crash, police said.
Following the incident, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services transported the unresponsive man to the hospital in criticalacr condition. Later, at the medical facility, he was pronounced dead. The KITV coverage acknowledged this event as the 17th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, which marks a decrease from the 27 fatalities reported at the same time last year.
