
An 85-year-old bicyclist from Leesburg lost his life on Sunday afternoon after a collision with a car. The accident occurred at approximately 3:39 p.m. on Palm Tree Trail, just north of Beach Park Road, when the man was struck from behind by a vehicle, as reported by Leesburg-News. The cyclist was heading northbound when the incident took place.
The Florida Highway Patrol indicated that the responsible driver is a 76-year-old woman from Leesburg. FHP revealed that she struck the rear of the bicycle, resulting in critical injuries for the elderly cyclist. He was quickly rushed to AdventHealth Waterman Hospital following the crash, where he was ultimately pronounced dead, as detailed by FOX 35 Orlando.
The names of both the victim and the driver have not been released to the public while the FHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. The driver stayed on the scene and has been cooperating with law enforcement to piece together how the collision came to occur.
