The Kirkland Tourism Development Committee (TDC) has rolled out the red carpet for its 2025 Explore Kirkland tourism grant application process. Applications are now open until July 25 as the city continues to bolster its reputation as a desirable travel destination. In a statement published by the City of Kirkland, Tourism Development Chair and City Councilmember Penny Sweet encouraged locals with tourism-attracting ideas, or those looking to elevate existing programs, to apply for funding. "The Kirkland Tourism Development Committee is proud to support efforts that highlight Kirkland as a welcoming and special destination to visit which, in turn, supports our vibrant local businesses," Sweet said.
The program specifically targets the promotional needs of special events and festivals, aiming to attract visitors who linger a little longer, opting for overnight stays. Backed by the lodging tax sourced from the city's hotels, motels, and short-term rentals, the potential benefits are structured to be mutual, bolstering both the tourism scene and local commerce. According to city officials, the grant has historically aided a variety of Kirkland's key celebrations such as the Junior Softball World Series, Kirkland Summerfest, and the Lake Washington Half Marathon.
Consistently, the TDC has earmarked $60,000 for the 2025 grant allocations, leaning towards events that foster a sense of communal safety, inclusivity, and the kind of warm welcome Kirkland is known for. In essence, the most promising candidates for funding are those that can either demonstrate a successful past in drawing tourists or show potent potential to do so in the future. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the City of Kirkland's official page for further details on the application process, including eligibility criteria and submission guidelines.
