Arlington's Southwest Branch Library is set to undergo a minor transformation, with plans for new carpet installation leading to a temporary pause in operations. The Arlington Public Library announced that starting August 5, 2024, the facility will shut its doors for approximately two weeks, aiming to reopen on August 16. During this period, certain services such as picking up holds and managing library card transactions will be available in the lobby, albeit with restricted hours, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
For regular patrons of the Southwest Branch, adjustments have been made to maintain access to essential library services. Holds can be picked up and library cards can be updated or acquired from Monday through Thursday between noon and 6 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday between noon and 5 p.m. However, during the closure, there will be no public computing or mobile printing services available, and the library kiosk will not process any financial transactions.
Residents in need of the full array of library amenities are directed to nearby branches, which remain operational throughout this period. The Ron Wright Lake Arlington Branch, Southeast Branch, and East Library and Recreation Center are ready to serve Southwest Branch's patrons, with operating hours accommodating most schedules.
