The landscape of Austin's Cherrywood neighborhood will soon be enhanced by the familiar flavors of cheese and freshly baked bread. Spread & Co., known for its artisanal cheese boards and local café charm, announced the opening of its new location at 2406 Manor Road, Suite B. This spot, once home to Lola's Donuts, will now serve as a hub for cheese aficionados and casual coffee-goers starting in early fall. The Eater Austin reports that in addition to the usual fare of sandwiches, pastries, and salads, the new Spread & Co. will expand its offerings to include a sophisticated selection of wines, aperitifs, nonalcoholic drinks, and beer. Eater Austin indicates this move comes after a temporary closure of their original location.
Rosemary and Austin Ewald, a couple united by their mutual passion for food, started Spread & Co. as a grazing board company in 2016 and opened their first café, as noted by KVUE. Having previous experience in local restaurants, they infused their menu with inventive creations such as beet falafel on house-made sourdough flatbread, a testament to the skills they had honed together, beginning in a restaurant class at Texas Tech.
Since shutting their original café doors in May, the Ewalds sought for a new space to reconnect with their patrons. An Instagram post revealed by Community Impact communicated their gratitude to their community, stating, "We are forever thankful for our incredible team, the Rosedale neighborhood, all our regulars and all our family and friends. We simply wouldn't be where we are without each of you. We can't wait to welcome you into our new home warmly and often." The shop, that met with evocative nostalgia, will now see an evolved model focusing more on "grab and go" items with limited dine-in, enhancing the practicality for those on the move, detailing plans for a swift reopening targeting the end of summer, as detailed by Community Impact.
