As Atlanta wakes up on this 4th of July, the city prepares for the 55th AJC Peachtree Road Race, a tradition tied to Independence Day and hot summer days. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Rich Kenah mentioned that, "We’ve got more entertainment, more bands, more community engagement, community groups and volunteers than we’ve ever had."
Starting bright and early on the 4th of July, runners will hit the pavement at the intersection of Lenox Parkway and Peachtree Road in Buckhead, pressing through to the finish line at Charles Allen Drive and 10th Street at Piedmont Park in Midtown. "We have an army of medical professionals over my right shoulder who will be in the park to help treat and address any heat-related illnesses we may see," race director Rich Kenah told FOX 5.
The Atlanta Track Club has detailed that virtual participants must complete their race and submit their results between July 2 and July 5 at noon, offering a touch more flexibility for those worldwide supporters. All virtual registrants will receive an email with information on how to submit their results, as per 11Alive.
Peachtree Road, Around Lenox Road, Lenox Road, among others, will be subject to lockdowns, with some starting as early as 2 p.m. Today and others kicking in on race day at the crack of dawn. This year, officials notify that all 50 states and 32 countries will be represented, with guests from as far as Melbourne, Australia making the trek for the race, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
It seems like taking MARTA will be the savviest choice for attendees. With services starting at 4 a.m. and the introduction of a wristband fare that can be scanned like a regular Breeze card, navigating the crowd should be less of a stress test. Those who've snapped up the special MARTA Breeze wristband should have already received it with their runner bib in the post, as reported by FOX 5.
