Tragedy struck the neighborhood of Montgomery Ferry Rd NE on the evening of July 5, as Atlanta officers responded to a distressing scene. Around 8 p.m., calls came in reporting a person suffering from stab wounds at 243 Montgomery Ferry Rd NE. According to the Atlanta Police Department's official news release, the male victim, who has not been identified, was found dead, the consequence of multiple stab injuries.
The Atlanta emergency personnel arrived shortly after the police, only to confirm the grim outcome—the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives swarmed the scene, seeking out clues to piece together the brutal act, in an attempt to rapidly secure any signs of the suspect. Not long after, per the same report, Zone 6 Field Investigation Team units happened to spot an individual whose appearance was aligned with the suspect's description provided during the initial canvas. William Coleman, born in May 1997, was swiftly detained.
Further probing revealed that Coleman was not a stranger to the law. He was found to have been on the run from the Department of Corrections, wanted for escape. His apprehension carried him to Atlanta Police Department headquarters for questioning that would unravel the sequence of events that evening. The evidence gathered was damning enough to lay charges upon Coleman.
Post investigation, Coleman now faces a trifecta of grave accusations—murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.
