During the incident, which occurred early July 5, Sharp rammed a police cruiser in an attempt to evade arrest. The chase ended when officers utilized a PIT maneuver to halt Sharp's vehicle, which was then followed by a foot pursuit into nearby woods before apprehension.
In another harrowing episode detailed by WSB-TV, Joseph Grier, 39, hijacked a Gwinnett County transit bus after fatally shooting another passenger then directed the driver to speed away leading police on a chase that spanned several counties, during the pursuit, the hijacked bus collided with multiple vehicles including police cruisers. Police managed to safely end the bus hijacking without further harm to the hostages inside thanks to the proficient execution of using bump sticks to deflate the bus tires.
The Atlanta Police Department's Elite Unit has been under the spotlight for their skilled response to such high-stakes situations. Officers with the Auto Crimes Enforcement (ACE) Unit, particularly Ricky Ferraro and Willie Adams, played integral roles in both apprehending Sharp and neutralizing the threat posed by Grier.
