The court hearing for Jeremy Malone, the suspect in the Peachtree Center food court shooting that occurred mid-June, was postponed, as FOX 5 Atlanta reports. Malone, 34, faces charges after allegedly opening fire and injuring three individuals in downtown Atlanta before being shot by an off-duty police officer.
With a criminal history that includes 11 arrests and a 15-year sentence served for two counts of robbery by intimidation in 2007, Malone has been a known figure to law enforcement. According to information obtained by 11Alive, Malone is now being charged with cruelty to children in the 3rd degree, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless conduct, and aggravated assault, still he is upholding a narrative where past patterns predict future behaviors, where consequences of history, unforgiving as they are, present themselves in an unyielding courtroom.
"This is an individual who should never have been possessing a gun," stated APD Chief Darin Schierbaum, highlighting the severity of the situation and malone's alleged responsibility within it. The incident took place at The Hub at Peachtree Center, 225 Peachtree St NE, which is a hub for downtown workers, residents, and tourists, especially crowded around lunchtime when the shooting transpired, as reported by 11Alive news.
The shooting unfolded after Malone reportedly engaged in a brief altercation in the food court, leading to shots fired and injuring a 47-year-old man from Grayson, a 69-year-old woman from East Point and a 70-year-old woman from Atlanta, all victims were alert, conscious and breathing after the assault and the rapid response of the off-duty officer possibly thwarting a worse outcome, as reported by 11Alive.
As the case continues to unfold, Malone has been denied bond and remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail. With the recent hearing postponed, additional details and proceedings are expected to follow.
