Austin is bracing for a mixed bag of weather conditions with chances of showers and thunderstorms today paired with rising temperatures through the week, according to the National Weather Service. Starting this afternoon, there's a 30% possibility of precipitation, followed by increasingly hot and mostly sunny days, with temperatures reaching near 99 degrees by midweek. With light winds shifting from calm to a south breeze throughout the week, locals should prepare for a sultry stretch ahead.

In the meantime, the city is not forgetting about those vulnerable to the heat. KXAN, in collaboration with Family Eldercare, has been conducting an annual Fan Drive to aid those without sufficient cooling systems at home. Despite the event happening on Friday, those who still wish to contribute can do so as the need for fans persists. Recent storms left rain totals of around one inch in some localities but were not enough to alleviate the concerns of soaring temperatures, as reported by KXAN.

The imminent heat wave is detrimental to individuals without efficient air conditioning or proper ventilation in their homes. Recognizing this, Family Eldercare and KXAN extend their gratitude to the community for the generosity shown during the recent Fan Drive. The organizations continue to solicit donations of fans and monetary support to combat the effects of heat on the vulnerable population, per the information provided by KXAN.

Austin's weather forecast also suggests a slight reprieve might be on the horizon, with the Climate Prediction Center indicating the possibility of temperatures at or below normal from July 20th to the 26th. This forecast comes as a contrast, to the usual high temperatures expected in July. Adding to this, the region may experience higher-than-normal rainfall, potentially offering some relief from the oppressive heat. A moderate level of Saharan dust is expected to move into the area tomorrow, contributing to a moderate air quality forecast, as noted by The National Weather Service.
