A fatal confrontation in southeast Austin on July 24 has led to a first-degree murder charge against 34-year-old Alex Trevino Garcia. An arrest affidavit indicates that Garcia was engaged in a struggle over a car he believed to have been stolen from him, resulting in the stabbing death of 23-year-old Javier Antonio Navarro Quesada. According to CBS Austin, the incident took place at the Array Apartments on Burton Drive.
Trevino Garcia claimed self-defense during his altercation with Quesada. “I'm sorry. He attacked me. He stole my car, and he attacked me," Garcia informed police upon their arrival at the scene, as CBS Austin reported. Witnesses at the scene and a female passenger in the victim's car have provided varying accounts of events, with one woman stating she saw Garcia making a “punching motion” with a knife towards the victim.
Police found a knife with an approximately four-inch blade in Garcia's vehicle, with what appeared to be dried blood on it. Quesada, however, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. In the wake of the violent encounter, Garcia is currently being detained at Travis County Jail, his bond set at $50,000. The Austin Police Department is keen on gathering more information and encourages anyone with further insights into the case to come forward, as per a statement to CBS Austin.
The circumstances leading to the fatal stabbing began with Garcia and his girlfriend following a vehicle they suspected was Garcia's stolen Kia Forte. According to KXAN, the couple tracked down the car to an apartment complex where the confrontation ensued. A passenger from the car later told police they had entered the complex intending to purchase drugs, only to be approached by Garcia. She alleged that the suspect had been carrying a knife in his right hand.
