On an early morning in northeast Austin, a 24-year-old man named Matthew Noe Orozco was arrested and charged with murder related to a homicide that occurred at the Alta Blue Goose apartment complex this past May. As detailed in a KXAN report, the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to what initially was a shooting reported at a Waffle House on E. US Hwy. 290 Service Road. However, it was later confirmed that the incident took place at the nearby apartment complex.
Based on APD documentation, the shooting happened approximately at 2:20 a.m. on May 17. Officers at the scene spoke with occupants inside a red 2020 Chevrolet Spark, stating that Eliud Cueva, Jr., 32, had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. After interviewing, police documents indicated the belief that Cueva, who later died due to his injuries, had been set up over what appears to be a drug purchase, with APD discovering messages on the victim's phone that turned into evidence, according to KXAN.
In a separate but possibly related incident reported by CBS Austin, another man was critically injured at the Alta Blue Goose Apartments early Friday morning. Police responded to the scene after shots were reported at a Waffle House and located the victim—a consequence of the shooting—that had taken place roughly at 2:18 a.m. at the apartment complex situated at 8110 Blue Goose Road. The injured individual was then taken to the hospital by Austin-Travis County EMS.
As the investigations continue, APD has not identified any suspects in the latest incident. Anyone with any information is being encouraged by the authorities to come forward and contact the APD.
