
An early morning incident in Austin has left an unidentified male pedestrian dead after a vehicle collision, adding another tragic statistic to this year's fatality count. According to the Austin Police Department, the crash occurred on Wednesday, June 26, at roughly 5:59 a.m. on the 7200 block of South Congress Avenue.
The APD states that the involved driver cooperated with law enforcement at the scene of the accident. Despite efforts to quickly transport the victim to a local hospital, he was later pronounced deceased, as per the APD. Investigations are to still actively proceed, with APD urging any witnesses or individuals with further information to come forward, actively helping to thoroughly sort through the incident's details. This unfortunate event marks Austin's 36th fatal crash in the year 2024, which so far tallies 37 lost lives. Last year's count, by contrast, had reached 49 fatal crashes resulting in 49 deaths by the same date, as noted in the official announcement.
