A Dartmouth College student was found dead in the Connecticut River after being reported missing following an informal gathering. Hanover Police Chief Charles B. Dennis confirmed the recovery of 20-year-old Won Jang around 65 feet from the river's docks last night.
The search, activated shortly after Jang was reported missing past 3 p.m. yesterday, saw the coordinated efforts of local police and fire departments, alongside the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department and the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team. Jang, who had attended a social event at the docks near the Dartmouth boathouse, had not been seen by friends since around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to NBC Boston.
As the Dean of Dartmouth College, Scott C. Brown, revealed in a statement obtained by Boston 25 News, "Won wholeheartedly embraced opportunities at Dartmouth to pursue his academic and personal passions." He detailed Jang's involvement as a project manager at the DALI Lab, a research assistant at Thayer, and his active participation in a range of collegiate activities, from mentorship roles to sports and music endeavors.
The preliminary investigation into Jang's death has not suggested any signs of foul play; however, the cause of death remains under determination by the Medical Examiner's Office.
