Early Monday morning, a Boston neighborhood was thrust into a state of alarm when officers from District A-1 descended upon 2 Center Plaza following reports of a man wielding a knife. According to the Boston Police Department, the call came in at approximately 2:25 AM, alleging that a male suspect, later identified as Tahjay Jones, 26, from Boston, engaged in a frightening pursuit of customers with a knife.
Charged with assault and battery, the officers located Jones inside a vehicle, stationed outside a bar with a group of females, still within the vicinity where the reported chase had taken place. Witnesses informed the responding officers that Jones had assaulted a patron with a boxcutter in a seemingly unprovoked attack. While one victim declined medical attention despite the panic ensued in the wake of witnessing a blade brandished in their midst, another suffered injuries serious enough to necessitate transportation by Boston EMS to a nearby hospital; however, these injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
The Boston Police used the description provided by terrified bystanders to pinpoint Jones, who allegedly had transitioned from chasing to assaulting customers. The department's swift response allowed them to apprehend the suspect before any more harm could befall patrons or passersby. With the arrest made, Jones is slated to face the consequences of his actions in Boston Municipal Court, facing accusations of Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault and Battery.
