In the bustle of Roslindale on Independence Day, Boston Police Department's Youth Violence Strike Force apprehended a man following a chase that began with a routine traffic stop. Adrian Fernandes, 24, was arrested on multiple firearm charges, as detailed in a statement released by the Boston Police Department.
After observing a car speeding and lacking its front license plate on Washington Street, the officers turned on their sirens for a traffic stop, according to the BPD report. The driver, later identified as Fernandes, attempted to leave after halting the vehicle at 90 Brookway Terrace, but his visibly shaking hands betrayed his composure as he dropped the keys. Despite his attempt to resist, the officers were quick to act, obstructing him from restarting the vehicle and demanding that he exit for a pat frisk.
The situation escalated when Fernandes resisted the frisk and sought aid from a bystander filming the incident, attempting to pass his keys—an action thwarted by officers who soon discovered a highly illegal firearm in his car. The Glock 27, equipped with a selector switch that enabled fully automatic fire, was carrying eight rounds, turning this routine stop into a significant seizure.
Subsequent to fleeing the scene, a spirited chase ended with the suspect found hiding on a nearby rooftop. Fernandes was finally taken into custody at 105 Brookway Road, now facing charges that include unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and possession of a sawed-off machine gun. His arraignment is slated for West Roxbury District Court, marking the conclusion of a July Fourth that proved more incendiary for one Roslindale resident than he likely anticipated, as noted by the Boston Police Department.
