On the evening of July 4, 2024, as fireworks burst, silhouetting the city's skyline, the Boston Police Department's Youth Violence Strike Force took action to decidedly reduce a potential threat in Roxbury. According to a report from the Boston Police Department, officers arrested three individuals and confiscated two firearms, along with ammunition, following a routine patrol in a local community college parking lot.
The incident unfolded at approximately 10:21 PM when officers on patrol noticed three vehicles idling suspiciously at Roxbury Community College. They approached to investigate when one vehicle chose to quickly leave the scene. Inside the remaining car, officers encountered a palpable odor of alcohol and visual cues of intoxication from the driver. Without a license on his person, the driver was identified as Jabbar White, 23, of Roslindale. It was during a subsequent search that officers discovered firearms and soon after took White and two other men, Nikolas Laronde, 25, and William Hudson, 25, into custody.
The vehicle's search led to recovering a stolen Smith and Wesson M&P Shield and a Taurus P92, along with a headphone case filled with 15 9mm rounds of ammunition. White and Laronde are now facing charges for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. White will also answer Receiving Stolen Property, while Laronde faces an additional charge of Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. Hudson, caught in this operation, already had an active arrest warrant for similar previous misconduct and is charged accordingly.
All three men are expected to soon be arraigned in Roxbury District Court, where the legal system will swiftly proceed following their charges. The recovery of these weapons possibly prevented a scenario that on this Independence Day might have traded celebratory echoes for the sounds of a different, far more tragic nature. This proactive work by Boston Police underscores an ongoing struggle with illegal firearms and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in maintaining safety within community spaces.
