On the evening of July 27, Roxbury became the scene of a dramatic series of events culminating in the arrest of 31-year-old Dequell Golson of Boston. According to Boston Police Department, Golson was apprehended following a vehicular hit and run that injured pedestrians near Marcella Park, where a basketball tournament was taking place.
Reports by officers on the scene indicate that at approximately 8:30 PM, a vehicle had collided with several individuals before fleeing, leaving two victims at the park, one of whom required hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries; meanwhile additional officers canvassed the area for the suspect after a vehicle description was disseminated. Shortly after, officers located and stopped a vehicle matching the description around 6 Dimmock St., and upon engaging with the driver, identified as Golson, they observed damage consistent with the hit and run incident, according to Boston Police Department.
Investigating further, officers discovered an outstanding arrest warrant for Golson and proceeded to arrest him, uncovering a concealed Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver with ammunition during the search of his vehicle. Additionally, Golson requested officers to collect his fanny pack, which led to the discovery of a substance believed to be crack cocaine. These findings have led to multiple charges against Golson, including firearm, narcotic-related offenses, and motor vehicle offenses detailed by Boston Police Department.
Golson faces arraignment in the Roxbury District Court on charges stemming not only from the hit and run but also for previous severe allegations such as Strangulation/Suffocation, Kidnapping, and Assault on a Family Member, all this comes amid additional charges for carrying a firearm without a license, possessing illicit drugs, and traffic infractions related to the hit and run. The recovery of the firearm and narcotics will likely complicate Golson’s legal predicaments, as they add to a growing list of charges that span the gamut from violence to reckless disregard for public safety.
