At the close of last week, Boston Law Enforcement made significant strides in the battle against drug trafficking within the city's Mattapan neighborhood. As reported by the Boston Police Department's official website, the Youth Violence Strike Force apprehended a 23-year-old Brockton resident, Paulo Barbosa, on charges linked to drug trafficking on the evening of July 5.
Described as a routine surveillance mission that escalated, officers honed in on a vehicle with heavily tinted windows late on Friday. Wanting for its connection to an armed robbery in Rhode Island, the officers' routine check of the vehicle's registration quickly flipped into a tense tableau of law enforcement in action. After stopping at a bus stop, the officers initiated a traffic stop while the vehicle was near Morton Street and Blue Hill Avenue, equipped with activated emergency lights and sirens.
Barbosa was instructed to exit his vehicle before officers carried out a pat frisk. Hidden within his possession was a copious amount of narcotics, specifically seven bags of fentanyl, fifty-three bags of crack cocaine, and twenty-two fentanyl pills, totaling to approximately 16.6 grams and 41.5 grams respectively. Additionally, $520 in U.S. currency found suggested the drug dealing undertakings.
Following the substantive drug recovery and cash, Barbosa now faces serious charges on trafficking Class A and Class B substances. His arraignment, looking ahead, is set to take place at the Dorchester District Court.
