A 22-year-old man was fatally shot at his home in Brockton, Massachusetts late Wednesday night, and authorities are currently investigating the circumstances behind the killing. Romualdy Pierre-Charles was found with gunshot wounds at his Vesey Street residence after Brockton police received a call about the shooting at approximately 11:51 p.m., as reported by NBC Boston.
Upon arrival, first responders pronounced Pierre-Charles dead at the scene. The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, which is overseeing the investigation, has yet to announce any arrests related to the incident, and officials have indicated they do not believe the shooting was a random act. The area, cordoned off between French Avenue and Echo Street, remained active with investigative work by prosecutors and Brockton police throughout Thursday afternoon, according to NBC Boston.
Neighbors in the vicinity were unsettled by the violence, with one local resident, Wila Lyman, recounting the sounds of gunfire to Boston 25 News, "It went pap, pap pap, pap and we knew it was a gun." She expressed her sorrow upon learning that a young man's life was lost, initially having hoped that the absence of ambulance sirens meant no one was hurt. Another neighbor, Tara Winborne, described taking precautionary measures, "When I first heard it - it was startling and I was just like wait a minute and I moved away from the windows moved towards the back."
Amidst the ongoing investigation, the DA's office and Brockton police have not publicly disclosed any motive or suspects. A vehicle, a Toyota, was removed from the scene by a tow truck, a detail captured by Boston 25 reporter John Monohan. Those living near the shooting were quick to extend their sympathies, with Winborne saying to Boston 25 News, "Very sad, very sad. I feel sad for those parents. Anybody who had to bury their child I can’t even imagine. No matter what the circumstance is having to bury your child is tough."
