BROCKTON - A stabbing in the city of Brockton has left one man dead, and another in custody, with Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police launching a full-scale investigation into the incident. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced the fatal occurrence following the events that unfolded the evening prior.

Emergency calls flooded in around 6:13 p.m. yesterday, reporting a stabbing in a park at the intersection of Crescent and Montello Streets. Brockton Police officers arrived at the scene and found Edmar Goncalves, a 39-year-old man from Fall River, who later succumbed to his injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital, according to a post on X from Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz. Brockton Police arrested 36-year-old Johnny Richmond, who was identified as the suspect at the scene, in connection with the stabbing.
The subsequent investigation has been a collaborative effort between the Brockton Police and State Police troopers affiliated with the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.
