BROCKTON - A stabbing in the city of Brockton has left one man dead, and another in custody, with Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police launching a full-scale investigation into the incident. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced the fatal occurrence following the events that unfolded the evening prior.

Emergency calls flooded in around 6:13 p.m. yesterday, reporting a stabbing in a park at the intersection of Crescent and Montello Streets. Brockton Police officers arrived at the scene and found Edmar Goncalves, a 39-year-old man from Fall River, who later succumbed to his injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital, according to a post on X from Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz. Brockton Police arrested 36-year-old Johnny Richmond, who was identified as the suspect at the scene, in connection with the stabbing.
The subsequent investigation has been a collaborative effort between the Brockton Police and State Police troopers affiliated with the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. While details continue to come to light, authorities have indicated that early indications suggest the stabbing was not a random act.
