Fans of culinary drama and hearty flavors have reason to celebrate as Canadian celebrity chef Matty Matheson, known for his role in the FX series "The Bear," partners up with Detroit's Standby to introduce a new food experience. As reported by CBS News Detroit, Matheson's upcoming menu launch at Standby is set to bring his reputation for "bold, hearty flavors" to the table later this month.
While Standby, located in Detroit's vibrant Belt Alley, has already made a name for itself in the cocktail scene, Matheson looks to strongly complement their offerings with his unique culinary style. The celebrated chef shared his connection to the city on social media with palpable enthusiasm, exclaiming, "DETROIT!!!!!! (Standby) KITCHEN OPENS JULY 19TH I'M HERE WE'RE HERE LET'S F****** GO." His passion for cities like Detroit, with its similar working-class vibe to his hometown on the border, appears to have been the kindling for this new endeavor, which aims to add to Detroit's iconic status. Matheson's respect for these American cities shines through in a statement obtained by CBS News Detroit.
The menu promises a mix of flavors with dishes like coconut shrimp and jerk mayo, mortadella sliders, Alabama barbecue grilled wings, and an array of taquitos, each crafted to reflect Matheson’s notable kitchen creativity. "I’m not sure about you, but I’ll have one of everything, please!" pens ClickOnDetroit.
In addition to being a star and executive producer on "The Bear," Matheson has also authored bestselling cookbooks and owns several restaurants in Ontario. This partnership marks Matheson's first restaurant venture in the United States, hinting at a new culinary era for both the chef and Standby. "Our vision for Standby has always been to evolve and grow with the times," said Standby owner Joe Robinson, as CBS News Detroit reported. The Standby team expresses excitement about partnering with Matheson, not only for his culinary skills but also because of the personality he brings to the table.
With the restaurant already noted for its Outstanding Bar Program, Matheson’s new menu might just be the perfect recipe for enhancing Standby's food experience. According to Hour Detroit, this collaboration could lead to "more future projects" between Matheson and the Standby team, with the new menu set to debut on July 19, inviting Detroit food enthusiasts to witness a blend of culinary mastery and local flavor.
