A tragic incident occurred Sunday night on Juno Lake when a man fishing from a kayak fell into the water and drowned. As reported by WZZM 13, the Cass County Sheriff's Office revealed that the incident took place just before 10 p.m. in Mason Township. The man, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was found by deputies to be unskilled in swimming and without a life jacket.
The recovery efforts included first responders and the Cass County Dive Team, who managed to locate and retrieve the man's body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to WOODTV, an investigation is ongoing, and while the official cause of death has not been confirmed, deputies indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor to the drowning.
Details surrounding the incident remain sparse, but what is clear is the stark reminder of the potential dangers of kayaking without a life jacket, particularly for individuals who are not competent swimmers. WSBT 22 adds that local officials are likely to underscore the importance of water safety measures in the wake of this event.
