The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is reporting notable progress with its recent introduction of "Chat with CTA," a customer service chatbot designed to streamline communication. Launched just a few months ago on April 24, the chatbot has since engaged in over 8,000 conversations with users, with a significant portion, 28%, handled without human intervention. The tool has allowed riders to promptly report issues and make suggestions concerning the transit service, enhancing overall operational efficiency, according to the Chicago Transit Authority.

"We're pleased to see that the chatbot has received such a positive reaction thus far and we're seeing an uptick in feedback as riders are taking advantage of utilizing the tool, which makes it easier than ever to report matters impacting the customer experience," said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. in a statement obtained by the CTA's news release. Indeed, the usage metrics of the chatbot show encouraging trends, with chat button clicks seeing up to a 21% increase, and the number of incidents reviewed by CTA staff has grown by up to 22%. However, it's not just about number crunching; the chatbot has been instrumental in addressing real-time issues such as malfunctioning air conditioning units, and cleanliness concerns, and has been a channel for passenger compliments too.

With engagement with the chatbot on the rise and a steady stream of enhancements—12 since its inception—the CTA shows commitment to evolving the tool. "The chatbot has been helpful in allowing riders to be additional eyes and ears for issues that arise during their use of the CTA system," CTA officials noted, acknowledging that this new avenue of communication has been successful in capturing feedback on a variety of matters, from technical hiccups to staff commendations.
