The excitement of the NASCAR Chicago Street Race is permeating the city, and local eateries are seizing the opportunity to serve up mouthwatering fare to the thousands of fans expected to throng the streets. Bronzeville Winery is stepping up to the plate, ready to delight patrons with a NASCAR-inspired menu specially curated for the event, as reported by CBS News Chicago. Executive chef Lamar Moore is prepping a lineup of elevated street food including sliders and an oxtail marmalade-topped creation that promises to elevate the race-watching experience.
While the logistical challenge of feeding the masses amidst the roar of cars may seem daunting, Moore is ready, armed with a lot of butter, a lot of buns, and a mobile kitchen setup. Locals and visitors alike can look forward to everything being cooked to order at the Bronzeville Winery tent, ensuring fresh, hot bites with each order. The integration of small, Black-owned businesses like Moore's at such a high-profile event is significant for community representation and local entrepreneurship, a sentiment echoed by the chef who told CBS News Chicago, "We get an opportunity as small, you know, Black owners and operatives to be able to pair with them and do such a great event."
But Bronzeville Winery isn't the only local flavor being tapped for the event. Chicago Eater reports an array of Chicago spots are joining the fray, like Lou Malnati’s at Grant Park, which is officially partnering with NASCAR to pump out deep-dish pizza slices and fan zone fun. Then there's the free-entry, no-reservation-required NASCAR Pit Party at Millennium Hall, with comfort eats by chef Michael Wally Wallach and a spread of Millennium Hall's full menu offerings. The food-focused festivities offer an alternative to the race’s beverage tents with their $63 six-pack of Busch Light, which may lack appeal to budget-conscious attendees.
Moreover, NASCAR's celebration extends beyond the course itself, with fan meet-and-greets like the one at Portillo's on W. Taylor Street, where racer Austin Dillion will sign autographs, as Chicago Eater highlights. Capping off the evening entertainment is Bandit's Talladega Nightlife, a pop-up bar event offering themed Jell-O shots, jungle juice, and cheeky nods to Will Ferrell's Talladega Nights.
