
On the Fourth of July, around midday, a Chicago man was arrested following an armed robbery and aggravated battery incident. The Chicago Police Department has identified the accused as 30-year-old Antonio Tapia of the 6200 block of N. Richmond. In a report published by the department, it was disclosed that Tapia now faces one felony count of robbery armed with a dangerous weapon and one felony count of aggravated battery using a deadly weapon.
According to the report, Tapia was apprehended at 12:40 P.M. on July 4, in the vicinity of the 0-100 block of S. Lake Shore Dr. Authorities claim he was positively identified as the assailant who had, not over two hours prior, robbed and attacked a 33-year-old man at knifepoint on the 6200 block of N. Sacramento. Details surrounding the circumstances of the arrest or the events leading up quickly to the incident have not been disclosed.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, sustained injuries in the altercation. The nature and severity of these injuries, however, remain unspecified in the police report. There has been no public information on his condition since the attack.
Tapia is set to face a detention hearing today at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. The specific time for the hearing has not been provided in the press release. Meanwhile, the department has stated that no additional information will be made immediately available regarding the case.
