Chicago businesses are on high alert after a string of commercial burglaries struck the 16th and 20th Districts. The Chicago Police Department has issued a crime notice that describes several incidents where offenders shattered the front glass doors of businesses with a hammer and swiftly proceeded to steal cash and other valuables, before escaping into the night. According to the Chicago Police Department, the burglaries occurred in the early hours of July 19, striking multiple locations within a close time frame.
Details provided by the Chicago Police indicate that the offenses took place at various addresses, including the 1400 Block of West Balmoral Ave at 2:25 AM, the 6100 Block of North Northwest Hwy at 2:50 AM, and two successive incidents on the 6700 Block of North Olmsted Ave around 3:18 and 3:19 AM, as detailed by the CPD. Businesses in the affected areas are urged to maintain vigilance, ensure their surveillance systems are fully operational, and not hesitate to contact 911 with any potentially valuable information. The suspects have been described as three males, possibly aged between 16 to 25, clad entirely in black with masks and gloves.
In light of these incidents, community members and business owners are encouraged to stay alert. The department advises "Be aware of this crime and alert nearby businesses" and "Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of the offender", in the event of any suspicious activity.
