Residents of the 14th District are on alert after a series of reported thefts from vehicles along Milwaukee Ave and adjacent streets, according to a community announcement issued by the Chicago Police Department. Thieves have been targeting parked cars, forcefully gaining entry by breaking windows, and snatching a range of personal items such as laptops, cellphones, and wallets, as detailed by the Chicago Police Department. With no descriptions of the offenders available, the police have encouraged heightened vigilance among community members.
The string of incidents has unfolded across several blocks, indicating a possibly coordinated effort. Incidents were reported on the 2800 Block of West Medill Ave, the 2800 Block of West Fullerton Ave, and multiple locations along North Milwaukee Ave. According to the CPD, these thefts occurred between July 3 and July 17, with times ranging from early afternoon to late at night.
In response to these thefts, the Chicago Police have made several recommendations for residents to protect themselves and their property. People are advised to be attentive to suspicious behavior in the area, to park in well-lit and traffic-frequented spots, and to notify neighbors of the crime pattern. Confronting potential thieves is discouraged due to the risk of injury. Moreover, the community is urged to call 911 immediately if they fall victim to or witness a crime, providing detailed descriptions of any offenders or vehicles involved, as reported by the CPD.
