
A horrifying incident occurred last evening in Crafton Heights when a young child was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle, an emergency that sent first responders rushing to the scene following a frantic 9-1-1 call. According to the report provided by the City of Pittsburgh Public Safety Department, the call came in around 8:30 p.m. from a man screaming for an ambulance on the 900 block of Woodlow Street without providing further details at the time.
Upon their arrival, the responders learned that a 4-year-old boy had emerged from the vehicle he had been sitting in, only to be tragically struck by it, the scene revealing a tableau of panic and distress that grips the heart, the child was subsequently rushed to the closest hospital by family members. As the situation unfolded, the boy was found to be in grave condition, necessitating his transfer to Children's Hospital for specialized care.
The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department, through Public Information Officer Cara Cruz, has indicated that the Collision Investigation Unit will be taking over the inquiry to decipher how such an event took place.
