As North Clarksville sees a surge in infrastructure developments, the City of Clarksville Street Department has reported progress on essential sidewalk projects. These projects are integral to the Transportation 2020+ Plan, which includes a series of improvements across the city. A major piece of this plan is the sidewalk construction on Peachers Mill Road and Cunningham Lane, each bringing enhanced connectivity and safety benefits to local communities.
The sidewalk along Peachers Mill Road is set to stretch from Providence Boulevard to Dale Terrace, linking up with existing paths and creating vital connections to area schools and parks. As of July 1, Clarksville has seen over 2,000 feet of the planned 6,500 feet of sidewalk installed, including features like handicapped-accessible ramps, and drainage facilities. The entire project, according to the City of Clarksville, is expected to wrap up in early Fall 2024.
In conjunction with these paths, there have also been updates to Peachers Mill Road itself, including recent re-paving efforts from Providence Boulevard to 101st Airborne Division Parkway. The parallel project on Cunningham Lane kicked off last week, endeavoring to connect the dots between Cunningham Plaza, the Northridge Subdivision, New Providence Middle School, and the Kleeman Community Center. This particular stretch of sidewalk will feature the latest in pedestrian crosswalk technology, including in-roadway warning lights and LED flashing signals—all push-button activated.
With about 200 feet of curb and gutter installations already done as of June 27, the ambition is, that this infrastructure will be ready by early Fall 2024. "I appreciate the Street Department's sense of urgency by completing these sidewalk construction projects so quickly", said Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts. His statement highlights the project's focus areas, particularly school safety, and preparation for the city's anticipated growth, as per the City of Clarksville.
The larger scope of the Transportation 2020+ Plan suggests more is to come, with further infrastructure development aimed at fortifying Clarksville's streetscape and catering to both present and future community needs.
