A tragic automobile incident claimed the life of a Columbus woman last Friday. The collision, which involved multiple vehicles, occurred in Cobb County. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Charlene Lott, aged 43, was driving on State Route 120 near Friendship Church Road when she lost control of her Honda Accord, leading to a sequence of collisions.
The accident unfolded at approximately 5:30 p.m., as Lott's eastbound vehicle began to rotate uncontrollably towards the westbound lane. A Chevrolet Silverado and a Lexus ES, occupied by a Powder Springs woman and a minor passenger, respectively, subsequently became involved. While attempting to avoid Lott's careening Accord, the Chevrolet's driver, a 48-year-old Douglasville resident, was not able to entirely prevent the collision. The initial reports indicate that, for reasons yet known, the Chevrolet struck the Honda and then the Lexus, accurately described by the Cobb County Police.
Lott sustained serious injuries from the crash and was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The Douglasville driver, meanwhile, was treated for superficial wounds at the scene, and the other parties involved were unharmed. The harrowing scene, strewn with wreckage and shattered glass, was also documented from above by the 11Alive SkyTracker, as per the coverage by 11Alive.
Further investigation is now actively underway by the Cobb County Police Department's S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit, seeking to determine what precisely caused Lott to lose control of her vehicle. Authorities encourage anyone who might hold relevant information to step forward and contact the Cobb County Police. The dissemination of such information can be essential, to help prevent future tragedies similar to this.
The community mourns the loss of Charlene Lott, and her family has been notified of the unfortunate event. As the inquiry into the crash continues, further details are expected to reveal more about the circumstances leading to this fatal incident. Police are also working to ensure a thorough understanding of the dynamics at play.
